Sunbathing and swimming is also possible in April, May and October, but it really depends on the weather and chances are that you'll get more sunshine in the southern Adriatic. In that period expect temperature between 15° C and 25° C ( 59° F - 77° F) and the sea temperature between 16 and 21° C (61 - 70° F). This is a period with more rain and windy days. When to go to Croatia Summer, specifically July and August, is high season on the Croatian coast and on the islands. This is when the sun is the hottest, the sea the bluest, and endless lines of cars carrying vacationers pour into the coastal regions from the country's interior and from neighboring nations, all heading toward the beach. July and August are Croatia's "season," the time of year the coast is at its best -- and worst. This is the time of year that hotel rooms are the priciest, restaurants the busiest, and the crowds overwhelming. It is a 2-month-long European rush to have fun, a period that makes or breaks many Croatian businesses that depend on the season for a year's income. Part of the tourism influx is due to traditional European vacation schedules, and part is due to the weather. Weather in Croatia generally can be divided into two miniclimates. Northern Croatia has a Continental climate, with average temperatures ranging from near freezing in January to about 70°F (21°C) in August. The coastal areas have a more Mediterranean climate, with average temperatures ranging from the mid-40s in January to near 100°F (38°C) in August. Spring and autumn are pleasant and mild along the coast; winter inland can be cold and snowy. The bottom line is that in July and August on the coast, good weather is almost a certainty and tourism is in full swing, but prices are at their highest. Conversely, in the interior, crowds are minimal and prices can reach their lowest levels. Zagreb and other interior cities can be real bargains in the summer months because many people will be on the coast. However, that means many Zagreb restaurants and shops may be closed then. A word of warning: The weather on the coast is usually nice, the sea warm, and prices lower in May, June, September, and October, but some establishments, especially those on the islands, might be shuttered by then and some ferry routes might be canceled or on reduced schedules.
